I stopped going to Pat's because I thought they were too expensive. So I took my Subaru to Putnam Subaru for a 30,000-mile service ($600). But about 2 weeks later, the car wouldn't start in the morning, and after taking it back to Putnam, it still wouldn't start the following morning (though they assured me nothing was wrong). So I took the car to Pat's and they correctly identified the problem (defective alternator, which had fried the battery). More important, they found stuff that Putnam should have detected during the 30,000-mile service: a broken rear differential bracket which was causing a clunk whenever I went over a bump, and a worn ball joint on the front axle. So where i'm at now is; Pat's may be more expensive, but they know what they're doing.
